Short Film 'Archetype' Explores Robotic Rebellion

Although it's not an entirely original concept, Archetype, a new short film independently shot by Aaron Sims, is still an innovative take on robots turning against their human creators. It features some really great art in the design of landscapes, vehicles and robotics. The film also does a great job of combining CG effects with great live action performances. My only complaint of the film is that it feels more like an extended trailer, and leaves me wanting more. Aaron Sims did base the film on a concept he has for a feature film, so there is hope that this won't be the last we'll see of Archetype. If you enjoyed Archetype, make sure to "like" it on YouTube and share it with your fellow geeks so Sims can realize his vision and show us the rest of this awesome universe.

Hyrulecraft: Ocarina of Time Recreated in Minecraft

I'm not what you'd call a Legend of Zelda fanatic, but even I found this project to be very impressive. The creator behind Hyrulecraft, Benny Girard, has spent the last 9 months recreating a 1:1 scale replica of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time within everybody's favorite block based building game, Minecraft. The alpha version of the map has been created, and the team of volunteers has switched their efforts to building a unique MMO experience, complete with quests, NPCs, dungeons and guilds. In the meantime, you can find details on their website of how to download the map, or log onto their public Minecraft server.

Nine months is a long time to work on a single project. You can even make a human baby in that amount of time, start to finish! Being the parent to a scale model of Hyrule does have its benefits, however. No diaper changes! It will still keep you up all night, but in a completely different way.

Oh, Expletive! Screen Prints Deserves All Your Money

While perusing the amazing wonderments of Kickstarter.com, I came across a gem of graphic design. It's a series of nine screen prints going by the totally rad name of Oh, Expletive. And oh, they are epic.

Here's their pitch:

"Oh Expletive is a project of epic epicness. It is a series of illustrations about ass kicking and mayhem — from zombies to unicorns to knife fights to flame throwers — the series consists of some of the most awesome things life has to offer."

What really draws me to these prints is their simplicity. Those bold silhouettes on a bright, colorful background is a modern trend that I have absolutely fallen in love with. Combined with a super-geeky subject matter, these prints make for a collectors item that is both epic yet understated. I can't wait to add these to my poster and t-shirt collection.

With less than 25 more days to go, be sure to check out their page on Kickstarter. Pledging not only supports their production, but is also the easiest way to secure one or more of these beauties for yourself.

The Elder Scrolls Adventures with the Dovahkids

Fans of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are probably already familiar with the work of Harry Partridge. The popular YouTube animator/musician has already created two previous video songs based on Bethesda's latest blockbuster RPG. His most recent video shows us what the land of Skyrim might be like if it were a in a Saturday morning cartoon. You can check it out on his YouTube channel.

Inception: The Card Game?

China - a land of over a billion potential Inception fans and some of the most lenient copyright laws on earth. It was these conditions that allowed for the creation of one of the most bizarre card games I've ever seen. Unoriginally titled "Inception", the game allows players to compete as extractors and marks across 5 levels of dreams, including limbo. Playable characters include all of your favorites from the film, including Cobb, Arthur and Saito. But why limit the fun to Nolan's Inception universe? Dark Knight's Joker, Avatar's Aang, Ezio Auditore and Nicholas Cage in Lord of War are among the other player cards. If we ever spot this in a Canadian game store (which we never will), we'll be sure to pick it up and give you a full review on The Hex19 Geekcast. Check out more photos after the break, and head over to Imgur to view the entire set.
