Skyrim's Dawnguard Expansion Coming This Summer

Nearly 7 months after release, Bethesda has finally announced that the first DLC expansion pack for Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim will be coming this summer. Unfortunately, no official information about the content of the DLC has been announced and most likely won't be until E3 in June, but the community has found some interesting files hidden in the latest patch. A number of animation files for a snow elf prince point towards a heavy focus on the Falmer and their role in Skyrim with another batch suggesting that crossbows may be added to the game in the near future. While an exact release date hasn't been announced, Bethesda has stated that it once again has a 30 day exclusivity deal with Microsoft, meaning that the DLC will come out on Xbox 360 at least one month before any other console. This news and the recent arrival of Kinect support means that 360 users must be feeling a lot of love from Bethesda right now. For those of you who play on PC and are itching to dive back into the frozen tundra like me, I'd recommend browsing the Skyrim Nexus for a few mods to tide you over, but unfortunately PS3 users are going to be out of luck for a while longer. Stay tuned for more Dawnguard news as it's announced.

Kinect Support Coming to Skyrim

A free update is in the pipeline for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim that will add Kinect support to the title on Xbox 360. Don't worry Dovahkiins; you won't have to wave your arms around in the air, or even use the motion sensing capabilities of the Kinect at all. Only the voice recognition features of the Kinect are utilized. Over 200 different commands allow you to use dragon shouts, command your allies, swap items, navigate the map and sort your inventory. My favorite new commands are "Quick Save" and "Quick Load", which were available on the PC at launch sans voice commands . The free update is supposed to be released before the end of the month. Check out a video preview after the break.

Over 10 Million Dovahkiins Have Played Skyrim For Too Many Hours to Count

According to Bethesda's Todd Howard, game director for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, the game has been played by over 10 million people, for an average time of 75 hours a piece. This is based on information that Bethesda received from players using the game online via the Steam service. When you take into account that drakonopobics probably quit the game permanently after the opening five minutes, you realize that there are some fanatics that have spent significantly more than 75 hours in the game. I'm not actually sure if Hex19's Glenn Meyer has stopped playing the game since its launch in November, besides some much needed Star Wars: The Old Republic breaks. I decided to do some number crunching on these statistics. It turns out that if humanity hadn't wasted all of those man hours crafting iron daggers, we could've cured cancer 18 times. Oh well.

The Elder Scrolls Adventures with the Dovahkids

Fans of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim are probably already familiar with the work of Harry Partridge. The popular YouTube animator/musician has already created two previous video songs based on Bethesda's latest blockbuster RPG. His most recent video shows us what the land of Skyrim might be like if it were a in a Saturday morning cartoon. You can check it out on his YouTube channel.

Skyrim: Week One Complaints

It is exceedingly easy to find the highest praise for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim online. I don’t believe that Metacritic is the be all and end all of video game journalism, but it’s notable that Skyrim for Xbox 360 is sitting at a 96 right now, nonetheless. Frankly, it completely deserves the praise. I personally feel that it’s one of the best video game experiences that I’ve ever had, but that doesn’t mean I don’t have my own qualms with the game. This is an article expressing a few of the complaints that I’ve had during my first week with the game.
