NBC chairman Robert Greenblatt shot down rumours today that the comedy series Community has been cancelled. He stated that the show would be returning this year, but possibly in a different time slot. I feel that this move makes a lot of sense. Although Community has developed a strong and loyal internet fan base, it simply isn't competitive in the 8pm time slot on Thursday nights. The best move for NBC is to try something new on Thursdays that has a better chance to generate mass appeal against popular shows like The Big Bang Theory on CBS. Community will likely be moved to Wednesday night, or possibly sent to die on the Friday night schedule once the final episodes of Chuck have aired. The current small, yet loyal fan base will follow the show wherever it lands, so it doesn't really matter what they do with it. I'm just glad that we haven't seen the last of Greendale Community College. At this point, however, I wouldn't hold my breath for a 4th season renewal of the show. The only chance of that happening is if more episodes are required to sell the show's syndication rights.
